Healing Vacation to Cape Breton

The beach at L'Archeveque

The beach at L'Archeveque

I spent a wonderful week with my family: Andrew, my three boys and their girls; Andrew and Angela, Dan and Lindsey, Matt and Ashley and Andrew’s brother Greg. Most days we walked to the beach, a good bit of a walk. Andrew and I slept two nights in a tent on sheep’s hill. For a full day I walked the beach searching for  wave smoothed beach stones of all colors, shapes and sizes. I breathed deep the salty air and listened by the hour to the sound of the waves crashing against the shore.

There is a special place on the beach where there are an abundance of stones at the waters edge. When the waves pull back to the sea the stones hit against each other making the most pleasant sound.

There is nothing like food cooked on the beach. We had bacon, eggs and toast for breakfast. The toast was flavored with sea air and drift wood smoke. Our second breakfast was oatmeal porridge. Yum! Hamburgers and hot dogs, pasta salad full of veggies, baked potatoes and zucchini. After all of that walking our meals tasted oh so good. Of course we had some s’mores for dessert
